The Jack Lucas Memorial Scholarship
Dr. Jack Lucas was a remarkable individual who dedicated nearly 70 years of his life to improving our community through public service. He was passionate about education and helping community college students succeed. The Jack Lucas Memorial Scholarship was established at the West Valley-Mission Foundation in tribute to his outstanding service to the West Valley-Mission Community College District.
About Dr. Jack Lucas
Dr. Lucas served on the WVMCCD Board of Trustees for over two decades. Before Dr. Lucas joined the WVMCCD Board of Trustees, he served the City of Monte Sereno for five terms as a council member and five terms as its mayor.
Dr. Lucas enjoyed a career as a high school educator for 66 years. He was a true role model who served the Los Gatos-Saratoga High School District as a teacher, athletic coach, Dean of Students, Vice Principal, Continuation High School Principal, and District Administrator of Special Projects and Programs.
Dr. Lucas was a devoted family man to his late wife, Frances, and their three children, Kathy, Janet, and John. He was a gentleman, scholar, and educator of exceptional wisdom who had an optimistic nature and was always cheerful. His legacy continues to inspire us to serve our communities with dedication, passion, and kindness.
The West Valley-Mission Foundation has a long history of awarding scholarships to students whose financial situations would otherwise prevent them from pursuing higher education. In the spirit of making higher education more accessible to everyone, we have established the Jack Lucas Memorial Scholarship.
